Yes, a sportswriter is speculating based on the Brett McMurphy tweet

as to the reason why WVU was rejected by the ACC. It is possible that L'ville had crossed that line too. However, the "basketball schools" may have been willing to overlook it due to L'ville's basketball pedigree. Also, keep in mind the ACC had to find a replacement for UMD to satisfy the NCAA bylaws for conferences with 2 divisions in football.

If a conference has 2 divisions in football, then both divisions must play a round robin schedule. Mathematically it is impossible for 1 division of 6 teams and 1 division of 7 teams to play a round robin division schedule and still everyone in the conference plays 8 or 9 conference games (ask the MAC). If the NCAA didn't have that bylaw, then the "basketball schools" may have opted to say "no" to L'ville.
