How many of you speed, and where?
When I'm on the interstate or on a major divided 4-lane highway, I typically drive 1-5 mph over the speed limit. My general thought is that gets me there a little quicker, and maintains my "little fish" status...not worthy of being pulled. Now if I see a police car on the side of the road, I'll slow down to speed limit and move over (if possible). I generally assess the risk of anyone stepping out on the highway in front of me is very low. I'm much more worried about a deer jumping out, especially after dark.
If I'm on regular city streets, I generally drive speed limit.
If I'm driving through "neighborhoods," I drive ~5 under the speed limit. Several years ago, a caught a glimpse of a kid running towards the street, and my vision was significantly blocked by a large panel truck parked on the side of the street. I immediately hit the brakes just in time for that kid to run right into the street in front of my car. If I hadn't seen him starting to run towards the street, I fear I would have hit him. Since then, I always drive slower than marked through neighborhood streets. If there is a sight obstruction (like that panel truck), I slow further, just in case...
