Riding the top pitcher in the country to the CWS does not make you a coaching guru. Nearly every player that enters VT softball exits as less of a hitter than they were when they entered. And that's saying something, since he only recruits from a limited pool of players. Whit has had higher priority targets since he was hired, but softball has to be near the top of his improvement list. We used to have a disadvantage because many of the majors that female athletes seem to gravitate towards were not offered at Tech, however, T&F, soccer, and lacrosse have been able to attract top athletes so that must have been remedied. There is no longer any excuse. Facilities are there, majors are there, all that is missing is a coach who knows what he is doing.
