If everything else is the same and consistent in how you make the coffee, the real wildcard is you and the condition of your tasting mechanisms. It happens to me too on occasion. And coffee gets stale pretty fast especially if purchased already ground. But more than likely if all things are the same going in, it's probably you that makes the difference. There's a lot of things going on with that first cup of coffee in the morning that can't be measured. Just my opinion.
