Another key point being missed here is impact it could have


on the lower education system in each state. If all colleges and universities eliminate French, German, Spanish, Italian, or any other language, then it could leave the school systems with a shortage of certified teachers.

My parents and stepmother worked in education in Virginia. My dad eventually worked his way up to Central Office for 1 of the counties. He was in charge of the curriculum for history, foreign languages, driver's ed, and a few other things. One requirement all schools had when hiring a foreign language teacher is they wanted teachers who majored in that language and certified by the state.

It makes for a smaller school to eliminate less popular majors and I get it. However, if it is done across the board then it could for the states to redefine their requirements (which may or may not be a good thing) or forced to hire teachers who attended a foreign university because the major is no longer offered in the US.
