The strength of the original SWs films was the story, not special effects

They created archetypes and put them into a futuristic setting, People reacted to the archetypes princess with a destiny, orphaned boy with a special ability and a destiny, etc.

Unfortunately, the franchise has used almost the exact same archetypes (and often plots, i.e. the casino scene in the recent movie was the cantina and space port in the first movie) that they are saying nothing new or interesting. I can see how someone who watched the new ones and then watched the old ones for the first time would like the new ones - because they are the same stories, with better effects. But if you saw the old ones when they came out, the new ones are just flashier imitations.
