To each their own, but Oahu's not a good overall representation of HI IMO.


I realize that sounds silly given that it's the most populated of the islands, but it's just too crowded for my liking. If you leave Oahu and go to any other island, it's drastically different. Honolulu is a tourist trap and nothing but concrete jungles, stupidly priced designer shops and overcrowded beaches. Tens of thousands of tourists jammed in a square mile. Think NYC with beaches.

The traffic elsewhere on the island is absurd. H1 going in both directions out of Honolulu is a parking lot. It used to be you could escape to the North Shore and go to Haleiwa, 3 Tables or Shark's Cove (for some awesome snorkeling/diving), but the word's out and now it's jammed from Sunset all the way to Turtle Bay.
