Sung has defeated 4 of those 6 teams above us
in A-A recruits in his first 2 seasons. After we beat UVA on Saturday, he'll have 5 wins (actually 6 since we beat Duke twice) vs. those 6 and we had a 1 goal loss at UNC a few weeks ago.
John Sung has 4-5 high quality players coming in next fall. They're comparable to Paige Petty, Leigh Lingo, and Emma Crooks talent-wise. Plus Sung will continue to bring in quality transfers like Marisa Davey (UMBC) and Julia Bolte (Oregon).
I've been following Tech WLAX since it began and it was always mind-boggling why we couldn't compete at a higher level, especially after we joined the ACC. We had a beautiful campus, a top 70 academically ranked national university, 5 hours from one of the nation's lacrosse hotbeds, and good facilities (especially the indoor practice facility that players have to like playing in during February and early March). Many said that former AD Jim Weaver didn't really care if the WLAX program succeeded. To Weaver, it was a program that was in existence to simply meet the Title IX requirement. All we needed was an AD who was serious about succeeding in all sports and a head coach who could make Tech women's lacrosse relevant for the first time in it's history.
