I would dispute that in my case - I have it down to a science.

At least, I do at Lowe's. I can fly through there. If I go through standard checkout, I have to wait for the cashier to realize they need the last 4 digits of my company credit card, and then I have to spell the associated job name and watch them figure out that there is a limited number of characters allowed, and then re-type it after they accidentally overwrite the first few letters of the name. Alternatively, in self checkout, I am hovering over the touch screen in advance of what information I'm about to be asked to enter.

Standard checkout may be faster for the average shopper, but given the number of trips I make to Lowe's, I'd bet my next paycheck I can get through self checkout faster.
