Kinda confirmed what I'd suspected


Figured I was mostly German, English, and Irish. Results were basically a relatively even mix of Western European, Ireland/Scotland/Wales, and Scandinavian (which could all translate neatly into German, English, and Irish.). I'm basically white. Like really, really white.

Only oddball in my report was 20% Southern European (which includes Italy, Greece, and pretty much anywhere that touches the Adriatic). I've done a fair amount of genealogical research on my own (kinda nice to use the skills I picked up with the history degree), and the closest ancestor I have identified from that area is my 13th great grandfather (who was a Taliaferro born in Venice).

My wife took one just for the heck of it as well. Since we both have deep roots in the same area of Southwest Virginia, we were relieved to discover that she and I are not DNA matches for one another. Our kids only have ten fingers and toes, so we kind of suspected. But it is nice to have confirmation.

That said. the actual lack of a DNA match with my wife and my phantom Adriatic ancestry have me a bit skeptical about the legitimacy of the test myself.
