I think that is likely a lazy person, not a mean one.

An awful lot of HVAC techs and companies out there are really only interested in doing new system installs. They either don't have the patience, don't have the expertise, don't have the interest, or don't like the profit margins for doing troubleshooting work...especially when it means there is just a loose wire and all they can bill you for is an hour of labor.
