Sure, I don't hang out with many of that generation, and youth soccer has been big for at least a couple decades to keep interest beyond when they end their playing days. One's opinion can be based on whom you hang with. Fans of anything tend to make an effort to associate with each other in any kind of way. Soccer fans will associate with each other somehow.

My observations were not really based on interest groups, but just if soccer was ever brought up in any social setting. I wasn't basing it on my interest in soccer....heck I followed indoor soccer back in the 80's, but that was most likely because it had plenty of scoring and Baltimore (my parents' home town) had a team and they were one of the better teams. Rooting interest matters for anything.
