The "Italian" tuneup


There are a few reasons I like it. The main reason is because the engine is made to be up there from time to time and exercising it like that ensures it will be ready when you need it. It may also uncover a sensor issue that is affecting you at low engine speeds but doesn't set a DTC in the computer until it fails at higher engine speed.

I have known people who go on and on about "blowing out" carbon, heating up the spark plug electrode, etc. I think in the old days that was more important. For me the benefit is exercising your engine to operate the way it was designed.
