Read an article a long time ago: buy 8 stocks is enough to diversify...


Yep, If you pick stocks in different sectors of course, it only takes about 8 stocks to be sufficiently diversified.

Large mutual funds have a problem that small investors don't have, a need to buy lots of different stocks to provide product plus you get the hedge fund guys detecting trends, eg, everyone buying facebook and taking their penny off of every dollar traded.

So yeah, having someone manage your money has built in inefficiencies although granted, you don't want another job spending time learning about the stock market (and those are still things other people tell you and everyone else)
