Do you leave a tip when you order carry-out food?

I always struggle with whether I should leave a tip when I go pick up carry-out pizza or carry-out Chinese food. The tip line is there on the receipt so I feel compelled to add a tip, but at the same time I always thought that tipping was for servers at a sit-down restaurant. So I'm never really sure what is appropriate.

Likewise, how much tip should one leave at a serve-yourself all you can eat buffet? The servers take your order and refill your drinks but don't bring you your food.
