two years ago, we bought a house that had history and memories like yours. Family raised five kids, parents lived in the house for 40+ years. My wife really clicked with the oldest daughter that was the realtor in selling the house. She told us they took our offer b/c we reminded them of her family with our two young kids. The previous owners had a "going away cookout" for the house just before closing, and invited all of their friends and family that that grown up celebrating in that house. They invited us, so we got to meet all these people and hear their stories. It made us appreciate the history of the place, which was pretty cool. This woman gave my wife a crystal pendant that her mom had hung in their kitchen window as long as she could remember. Her mother had passed away, but she kept the crystal and wanted us to have it as a "piece of the house". My wife and her were both crying, and we still hang the crystal today.
Anyway, it sounds like the new family appreciates the history, so you know that it will be in good hands. I can imagine how I'd feel if I sold the house 30 years from now after my kids had grown up and brought their own kids back. Congrats on the sale, but I'm sure it's a little bittersweet. you live in a place that long and build those memories and it's hard to say goodbye. Hopefully you poured a little JW Black in the yard in honor of the memories.
