I work in this industry, so here is the deal


If you are a basic user, one of those other operators (called MVNO's, or Mobile Virtual Network Operators) is more than enough for you. Use anything that is LTE/UMTS/GSM, and DOESNT ride on Tmobile, or Sprints network.

Basically, anything other than actually using the service is cut-back. Customer service, more basic control over usage, lower priority on the network when congested, smaller device choice etc, likely fewer roaming options, etc etc.
