They also don't require regular "tune ups" like the good old days.


With the "learning" PCMs that adjust spark timing & duration, fuel delivery (also timing and duration the injector remain open), they compensate for worn plugs, and other degradations that would be obvious in the "good ole days." Basically it makes the engine run well, much longer between tuneups. Add knock sensors, and you can run "regular" fuel in a car that asks for premium*. (You might not have the same performance at the very top end, but it should run as well during "normal" operations.)

*But I highly recommend following the manufacturer's fuel recommendations, especially in turbocharged automobiles.
