It all depends


I have worked jobs that when you gave your 2 weeks they walked you out and paid the 2 weeks. No animosity, but it was technology sales and they just did not see the need for the 2 weeks.

Other jobs is you leave before 2 weeks it hurts you from a references point. If you current employer does not feel a need for a knowledge transfer and you are willing to forego the pay it should all be fine. 2 weeks is just the accepted standard and nothing else.
