Don't forget Gazzaniga.
Uninspired is the right word for the club overall. It is funny to look back at the journey back from League One (2009) to the Premier League. If pressed for a turning point, I'd probably say it was midway through Poch's 2nd season (2013-14) when they let go of the Chairman. Poch was out the door that summer and even though Koeman improved the next two seasons, the club definitely began the transition from "buyers," which they had been in League One and the Championship to the shell game of selling for a profit, and replacing with a cheaper option. That worked okay at the beginning (Tadic, Graziano Pelle, Mane, especially), but once you start missing on the replacements, it can unravel quickly because all of a sudden you're stuck with players that have little (or lower) value to the big spending clubs, which messes up the entire cycle especially when they prove to not be very good.
