I was thinking about some major changes since I went through


I remember the day we spent on intelligence and threat. We watched Soviet propaganda films and laughed, learned about Soviet armor, Soviet tactics (always shoot the guy next to guy with the antennas and blow up the vehicle with all the antennas because once the political leader is dead the unit becomes useless).

All of the targets on the advanced marksmanship range had red stars on their helmets.

Land nav was just maps and compasses, no GPS.

We did PT in boots and BDUs (that changed the following year).

I can't imagine how bad the snowflake mentality is. We had a kid that was unhappy and while we were shining boots after dinner went to a payphone in the company area. When the Drill walked up he held the phone out and told the Drill "my mother wants to talk to you". The drill laughed, took the phone and hung it up and the kid didn't leave the front leaning rest for three hours. The kid was gone the next day. I suspect the Drill would be reprimanded for that today.
