My take on the Brooks (nepotism) situation (long)

I don't like to pile on, or throw a player under the bus, but I've read a lot of the posts on here about what many others have stated, but hadn't given it much thought until I started looking at some numbers (other than 13-0), but after seeing a bunch of air balls at critical times, just had to speak my piece.

I'm a quantitative kind of person, so let me throw some numbers out there.

60% - Kendyl's free throw percentage for her career, thus far. Supposed 3 point shooters should be shooting much better than that from the line.

6 of 36, or 16.7% - that is her FG% from TWO. Yes, she has only made 6 FGs in her entire career from inside the arc. A few games ago, it caught my attention when the TV guys said she had made her first 2 a couple games earlier, and I thought that had to be a mistake. No, she's only made 1 this year, only 1 last year, and 4 her freshman year. That just blows me away, in a bad way.

She is 31% from beyond the arc, which equates to about 46% "equivalent" from 2. Not bad, but certainly not great. My biggest gripe about here 3's are she takes so many from near NBA range, and quite frankly, she isn't strong enough to shoot from that far out.

That is what you call a one dimensional player on offense. Teams see that. She isn't going to take the ball inside the arc, and they can play accordingly, putting more pressure on the other four.

I cannot understand how a coach doesn't see this, unless he is so blinded by his devotion to his kid letting her play the way she wants to play, and doesn't want to see it. He is not coaching her. He is letting her self will run riot on the floor.

All I can say is one thing, I hope he can put three incredible players out there on the floor next year to go with the two daughters, because, face it folks, there'll be another one on the floor 30'ish minutes a game next year, and if she were really all that good, she wouldn't be redshirting, given the number of bodies we have playing this year.

I remember when he was hired. The general consensus was, "good, we have a great shot at his daughters." Well, that reminds me of another situation from a number of years ago.

People (on here) were all up in arms about Tech not going after girls more aggressively from Hidden Valley HS (in Roanoke). HV had put together a very solid HS team, dominating AA ball in Virginia for a few years. We did sign one - Abby Reddick, JJ's sister. When she signed, the feeling was "finally, we got some sense."

She transferred to Drexel after a year+. She simply wasn't ACC caliber.

The Brooks girls are good players at a lower level. They've demonstrated that in high school, but that is high school, not the ACC.

I'm not holding my breath on any transfers out, but the situation is very similar. Be careful what you wish for. It just might come true.

Like they shout at rallies for Presidents seeking reelection - "four more years." That's what we've got.
