Outside of pictures taken for work (and I do take a lot of those), I'm not sure I've taken 1000 pictures in my lifetime. As an example, I took a 3-week backpack trip around Europe in college and I think I took maybe 50 pics on the whole trip. On a 2-week business trip to France and Sweden, I may have taken 20 pics.

I grew up with relatives that would take upwards of 200-300 pictures every Christmas morning. They kept stopping you every time you were about to open a present, as you opened the present, as you saw what it was, and as you pulled it out of the box to take a picture. Drove me absolutely bananas. I've kinda hated the concept of picture taking ever since.

And I think in the cell phone camera age, it has gotten worse. An awful lot of people seem to be more concerned with capturing a moment than they are living the moment.
