Three airspeed indicators in the cockpit of the F-4E..................

Indicated (KIAS)
True (KTAS)
Ground (Ground Speed)
When I would fly a F-4 on a Functional Check Flight, we would take it supersonic at FL 450. When we were supersonic, Mach 1.4 or so, the indicated was around 300 KIAS or less. And when you went even higher, to FL 500, the KIAS went lower, as the air was less dense! But you were still supersonic!
