Thoughts.
OK while I think 4000+ is pretty good draw and I think the fans were pumped, your post is timely today. Go ahead and click the link below on the Okie St vs Iowa match and you will appreciate a big crowd that understands what they are watching (turn the sound up). I do think VT can get there, but it will take an individual or team championship to get the broad brush interest. VT will, for the foreseeable future, be married to football and a lesser extent basketball.at least until BB stops making NCAAs. More matches like Cornell and NC State will actually help IMO.
Point: How long an article stay on front page probably has a lot to do with views too. If it scrolls off quickly, it likely will not get as many hits. But think of where wrestling is today versus 5 years ago. TSL is doing a great job of putting something on the article stream and even dedicated a message board to the sport.
IMO we will win an individual national title or be back on podium within 3 years and then the traffic and interest will accelerate. I am actually impressed at the number of views you cite above considered wrestling is such an ambiguous olympic sport.
