If you laying there and not doing anything to build to a base to get an escape or reversal, I feel pretty good that I can "tell it" by the actions and movements you make even if not successful. If you go into a turtle position and fail to move, then you aren't working to a base. That is a stall warning.

If you are on the bottom and you are trying things, then I don't call stalling. If you are on the bottom and a guy has double boots in or a very strong cross body ride with a leg in and either a hand on a leg or arm, that's a pretty tough position to be in for a bottom wrestler. I am going to then expect the top wrestler to do something with that or I go stalemate or potentially stalling if they are making token jestures.
