Mail/wire fruad sounds like an incidental law that’s pinned on people for

Some other crime they committed to scare them straight or stick it to them. Most people don’t even know what it is or how it hurts anyone. Kind of like kidnapping someone and taking them across a state line. The real crime is the kidnapping. Driving across the state line is an incidental. Regarding the illegal tax deduction, I doubt they do their own taxes. I had a tax course in college & the most important thing the professor said to remember from the course was, “when in doubt deduct”. He even gave an extra bonus point to anyone who wrote it on the top of their test. I still say the true or intended crime was trying to manipulate their daughter into college by cheating the system. A financial penalty and community service would send a message to them & others. Spending money to jail them is a waste of taxpayer money & we do enough of that already.
