I used it along with my double 1st cousin on dad's side of the family...


Since my sister passed away she was the closest female relative and double 1st cousins are pretty close genetically.

As far as my mom's side of the family we actually have written records back to the 15th century in Scotland). A double 1st cousin on my mom's side of the family also took the DNA results and she shared her findings.

The results were pretty much what we expected based on Genealogy records but there were some interesting things from both families that showed.

Not surprisingly a large part of our DNA was Lowland Scot (that jibes with both sides of the family 70%). The other 30% was split between in order of %: German, Sámi people of Sweden, Sephardi Jews and Irish.

We have records on my mom's side of the family going back to the 15th century (Scotland) and my dad's side of the family nearly as far into the 16th century. The German and Irish we knew but the other 2 we think we've narrowed down. Sámi people from mom's side and Sephardi Jews from dad's side.

It's fascinating and I've spent quite a bit of time researching.

On dad's side of the family I'm the keeper of the genealogy records. On mom's side of the family I'm one of 3 and we trade our information as we get it. My one cousin on my mom's side has family bibles and records going back to 1438. If something happens to him then it's passed down to me.
