No new suggestion from me, but giving input on the ones below. If you have

the time, then hiking the Cascade Trail is my choice #1. Maybe a mile and a half hike up via the scenic route that takes you along the mountain stream, ending in a 60 foot or so waterfall. Quite beautiful. Then you can take the high road back down that's much straighter and quicker for the descent.

Checking the sports schedule makes sense too. Even if no UVA team is in town playing VT, you might be able to watch a good contest otherwise. When I lived in Raleigh, I occasionally went to a UNC or NC State baseball game just because I could.

Walking the VT campus (perhaps without UVA apparel?) is also recommended. Lots to see, and definitely get to the Memorial and Chapel / Pylons. Most college graduates will think that their campus is the most beautiful, but VT is beautiful. And you can do a little female sightseeing when you do the campus walk.

I can't speak to the restaurants, but I'm sure you have several good suggestions for that.
