Not speaking of any of the Spurs fans here, but


I think Spurs are sort of a "safe" pick for newer American fans of the Premier League. They're not one of the dominant teams of the past 30 years or a "new" rich club (Abramovich's Chelsea or Manchester City), so you're not really cherry-picking a top team. However, they're also a historically strong team and have never been relegated from the modern Premier League, so you're safe on having a team that isn't likely to drop down a league.

I remember Bill Simmons wrote an article back on ESPN page 2 days about picking a Premier League team along much the same lines as above. It was basically Spurs and Everton at that time that were outside the historical top 4 (+ Man City), and it's certainly been more fun to support Spurs in the intervening seasons, while Everton fights it out with whichever mid-table teams make a run every year for 7th.

As for the current team, I think Spurs have a lot of likeable players and an absolutely fantastic manager (nevermind that he left my team for North London back almost 5 years ago). Hard not to root for them in and amongst the rest of the top 6 of the Premier League.
