Absolutely. I told my dad that


he suffered terribly with cancer almost so much he was at the point where he was unrecognizable at the end. He hung on and hung on because he didn't want to leave my mom alone and I, selfishly, had him trying everything to "get better." He hung on probably a month or so too long, but I told him that it was OK to let go and that I would watch after mom when he was gone. Two days after that he let go. My guilt in all of that was that I feel responsible for him hanging on too long. In fact, when he took his last breath I have never felt a calm and peaceful feeling come over me like that.....ever.
