Everything in that review is accurate, though


The episode was a visual spectacle, the likes of which we've never seen on the small screen before. And it was a clear depiction of dystopian hell-on-earth followed by a rebirth and ending with people just being people (arguing over whether to spend money on ships, sewers, or brothels).

All that is an absolutely true assessment. And if we take it that was the goal of the producers, the episode was beautifully done.

All the criticism of GoT isn't that they are doing what they set out to do badly, it is that what they set out to do is so different from what we got in seasons 1-5. The witty dialogue, the politicians who are 3 steps ahead of everyone around them, the intricate character development, the sheer magnitude of the scope of it all. They took the show we loved and turned it into Lord of the Rings - a Michael Bay Production.

Which could be OK, it just isn't what we came here for.
