If I didn't have 2 kids in the car with me last night, I may have had a
good lawsuit opportunity.
I looked in my rear view mirror and there was a car following me SO closely that I could even see the hood of the vehicle. It was like it was a NASCAR race and he was drafting me. On 3rd glance back, I noticed a light bar across the top, but it didn't look like police lights. Again, so close that I couldn't see the hood of the car. 4th glance, yeah, that's a cop.
I'm probably 4 miles over the speed limit, but so is everyone around me. His lights aren't on, so why so close? Yes, very brief thought of "let's slam on the brakes and let him rear end me", but the combo of 2 ten year olds in the car (coming back from a soccer game) and figuring that I couldn't truly control the results made me flush that idea.
And the lane next to me was wide open. He could pass easy. Eventually, he did, accelerating hard, popping back in front of me and now 2 feet or less behind the car that was in front of me. After that it was a switch to the right lane, braking aggressively to not hit a car in that lane and then following him by 2 feet or less before then exiting at a normal speed (and no one in front of him, so following distance wasn't an issue).
I actually don't mind if one of the perks of being a policeman is being able to get away with breaking a few rules (IE, if an off duty officer gets pulled over for speeding, I'm betting they don't get a ticket....ok, that's fine) but that particular officer, on duty last night did piss me off with how unsafe he was driving. And I'm willing to be he wasn't on a 'silent response' call.
Just venting.
