I was in a local bike shop getting my wheels trued, and one of the guys...
...commented about how they don't see many bikes from that era. I asked if it's the oldest he's seen, and he pointed back to a bike with 27" wheels that was in for service.
My first "real" bike was a Schwinn with 27" wheels. I used it at VT, and continued to ride it until I was assigned to Key West. I lived in the BOQ, and chained the bike up in the bike rack under the "overhang" of the building. In 30 days, every unpainted surface had developed a nice shade of orange rust. I continued to ride it until I transferred, but left the bike in the rack. It wasn't worth taking it along...lol I bought my Panasonic at my next duty station...and I'm still riding it today.
