I read an article about this a few years back, don't know if it has changed


but the issue was that they were working under a CBA and in the CBA they had chosen a lower pay construct to get better benefits, specifically related to payed family leave.

Kind of reminds me of players that sign long term front loaded contracts, then whine in the final years about being underpaid.
