Not a horrible idea to replace the shutoff valve anyway, esp if it is


contractor-grade piece of plastic.

I had a cheap plastic shutoff valve detonate once and did a lot of water damage to the house. Ever since then, I've gradually replaced shutoff valves everywhere I've lived with brass 1/4 turn ball valves
