I attended a Muslim funeral today

A dramatic and remarkable experience.

It was...at times...loud, chaotic and highly emotional.

And then there were moments when the 200 + in attendance were completely silent...as the casket was opened at the grave site...and the brothers positioned the body to face Mecca before burial.

After the casket was lowered into the grave...the son approached with a shovel...and began to place dirt into the grave. Then the brothers joined him.

When the grave was covered...an Imam from the local Mosque spoke. His words were beautiful. His intentions were not so different from what I heard in my church growing up as a kid.

I left the cemetery reflecting on the thought...that we really aren't so different from one another in the things we want from life...and at the moment of our passing.

What a beautiful...peaceful afternoon it was...on that hillside in the sun.
