I bought an older touring bike that has mounts for bags in front and back.
It looks like typical road bike, but it has some key differences:
-steel frame with rack mounting lugs front and back, so it's a little heavier
-longer chain stays, so bags on a rear rack don't interfere with your pedaling.
-little shorter top tube, so you have a big more upright riding position.
-heavier rims and wider tires (35mm)
I use it as a commuter, and use it more in the winter because it's a lot less likely to get a flat. That way I'm not freezing on the side of the road fixing a flat.
