I've gotten to the point that I use local dealerships for state inspections

A lot of the dealerships around here give "free State Inspections for Life" if you buy that car from them. I'll throw a little work their way, such as coolant and power steering flushes to thank them for this service. I'm sure this is also to look for work, but they haven't told me any BS to sell unnecessary work. They've been "straight up" reliable.

Used to use an independent shop for my older BMW's inspections, since it was close and I knew the owners (from the BMW CCA), but they no longer require state inspections. I put "antique" tags on das autos since they're over 25 years old. I still buy Redline gear oil from that shop whenever I'm doing my differential or manual transmission drain & fills. I can probably find it a little cheaper, but I don't mind throwing them a little business.
