Sometimes its not just for underperforming

I know a kid that played baseball in the SEC. He was on 75% scholarship and was SEC rookie of the year his freshman year. The coach cut his scholarship by something like 20%. It didn't make sense from the kids point of view. From the coaches point of view, he figures once the kid is on campus, at 55-60% he won't transfer and he can use the extra money to try to bring in more talent. It's dirty but its a cut throat league. If your competitor is doing it, it's tough to not follow.
