I ran into an actual Irish guy in CLT last week and his take on


S.t Paddy's Day was that it was largely an American custom. In Ireland, he said, it's just another day of the week to drink. So if it's on a Wednesday, it's preceded by three drinking days, then the drinking day of St. Patrick's Day, then three more drinking days. And then it's on to the next week for more of the same.
