I think there are two related things that is the reason...


Whittenburg and Mancini both could not wrestle their last 5th place match due to NCAA match limit for a day. Thanks to @JoesterVT for digging up info below. This is because the SE Open is a 1-day tournament -- if it were 2 day they could expand the fields and have a true wrestleback to 3rd. If they did that for the 1-day version it would add possibly another match and in some cases would exceed the daily limit by 2+ matches. Those two guys already tumbled 6 times today....yeesh.
