You could drop TV, but keep their internet, then sign up for youtube TV


That has a "online" DVR included in the package (i.e. no extra charges).

Other options include a TiVo box. You may need to rent a CableCard, but that should be much cheaper than their DVR. Check their website for the rental price. TiVo requires you pay a monthly fee for the channel guide, but the feedback I've heard is that most people really like it.

There are a few other HD DVRs out there...
