He's alive, thank God, but coaching probably is not be an option

Start with all the positive aspects everyone else has mentioned. He's alive, which means a lot; heading to a great college; and seems to appreciate all that. I can't imagine he could really coach though. Wrestling is one of those sports where the coaches stay fit and are on the mat with the guys all the time. I doubt he can do that.

Our family sort of lived through this same experience, although my daughter did not yet have a scholarship offer. She was a very good high school soccer player and likely would have received some offers. But she was involved in a car accident at 16 that broke her neck terribly, severed two arteries, and snapped her legs. Today she is fully recovered, looks perfectly normal and you would have no idea what she went through if you didn't know what happened to her; she is healthy and fully functioning in every way; and she is planning to go to college next year. In fact, she visited Tech and Wake Forest today.

But soccer and all other contact sports ended for her that day. She's alive, happy, and healthy - and you have no idea how amazing that is to us ... and soccer just doesn't matter compared to that.
