VTCC had a student recently with a similar story.

Jack Holland was a high school football player on his way to play football for one of the academies when he suffered a broken neck. He football career was over, so he came to VT and enrolled in the Corps as a non-ROTC student. He ultimately ended up becoming the top student leader in the Corps, graduated, and is now in a good civilian job.
