Iran is positively crippled by US sanctions affecting every aspect of life


Their traditional allies or even general well wishers won't do business with them because of the US nexus (aid rendered by an American even if the American works for say a Swiss company, or done in USD, or simply wired through some company in Manhattan) and the threat of legal action and insane fines, so we can squash any aid they might receive.

This is the sort of thing that sanctions are absolutely designed for, concentrating costs on people who cannot do anything about it. And the result of all this is that the states that are subject to these sanctions (some for more than 50 years) are totally kowed and beholden to our whim, right? Right....

IMO Iran or any other sanctioned state is not a good measure of a normal nation's response to pandemic
