Death is an outcome. The goal has to be things that can lead to that outcome that can be controlled and acted upon. For example, number of infections is irrelevant because majority just get over it. Number of infections that require medical intervention matters because as long as that is below the ability of the medical system to treat those patients, you can mitigate deaths to the extent possible.

You can't stop a virus, just not possible, and you can't stop people from dying of a virus. The key is to prevent as many preventable deaths as possible. So I want to know how these restrictions are supporting that goal and what says we've met the goal such as when new infections requiring intervention fall below available resources by a certain percentage.

Last I checked we still live in a democracy and I don't believe it is unfair for us to ask those making decisions that are destroying lives to outline how what they are demanding is going to save lives beyond these generalities and talking points or to provide some details on when things can begin to return to normal beyond made up dates and when they say so.
