Feels like “masks” all get lumped together in the news


In reality they need to separate the two types and what they are useful for.

Type 1 is the n95 variety that is designed to protect the wearer from small particles. It prevents stuff from getting into the wearer.

Type 2 is the looser surgical mask that prevents large particles from entering the wearer or from transmitting outward from an infected wearer. This prevents spread from basic stuff like water droplets from coughs.

So he is right that healthy people don’t need n95 masks because they won’t typically be in a medical environment.
