IMHO, ECU would still be in the same situation today if they made the move

to join the Big East back when Tech did. Tech had a huge advantage over ECU in that Tech is a large land-grant university with one of the state's largest undergraduate enrollments. Plus Tech was the only one of two FBS schools in the state at that time. ECU was the 5th wheel in the state of North Carolina. No way the ACC would ever add them to the conference with Duke, UNC, NCSU, and Wake already in the conference. The AAC is the best that ECU will ever do. Cincinnati, Temple, UConn, and Memphis have a much better shot at joining the ACC than ECU will ever have and those four schools chances of ACC membership are very slim. ECU seems to be endanger of losing it's spot in the North Carolina pecking order to Appalachian State, who has made great strides in its football program the past decade while ECU's program struggles financially and has lost much of its identity.
