I think I've seen some laboratory studies proving the effectiveness


of masks, but those are under very controlled and specific lab conditions (i.e. someone with a mask and someone without a mask both cough or sneeze on a petri dish a specific distance away, then the resulting culture is evaluated). But I haven't seen anything about the real-world effectiveness after taking into account them being improperly worn, reused for several days, moved out of the way to have a conversation, etc.

Sure seems to me if you wash your hands before you leave the house, don't touch your face, and cough or sneeze into the crook of your arm, your odds of spreading anything are just as low (or lower) as the actual mask wearing behaviors I've seen.
